Once a year
Once a year, another trip around the sun happens since you were born, and you celebrate your birthday. At least that is what I do since I was born, and I assume most humans do the same.
That day is special, but it can become noisy and tiring pretty easily. That's why a few years ago, I started a birthday routine.
I love the compounding effects that I get from repeating small things every day. You probably already got it: I'm definitely a routine person.
My premise for my birthday routine is simple and has two main parts:
This special day should reflect what you envision for the new year. Do you wanna finish a marathon next year? Go for a run on your birthday. Do you want to work super hard? Enjoy that day doing your best with your workmates! This looks pretty easy, but you need to plan in advance. It's too easy to let the noise and others dictate your plans.
Thank the people who have made your time special. The world has ~8.3 billion people. It's too hard to find good friends you can trust and enjoy spending your time with. Just to put some numbers to it: if you have 20 close friends, they're 0.000000241% of the world population. My birthday parties are not usually crowded. The people who share my birthday with me should have a very special place in my life.
I'm not saying you cannot have a crowded birthday party. I'm saying you should have time to celebrate in an intimate space with the few people who really make your life better, easier, or simply more enjoyable.
